8-15-05-phase-f.jpgBy Kevin Kane The Southside Times Construction of a soccer field and football field will start this week, a collaborative effort between two Southside parishes. Our Lady of the Greenwood (OLG) and St. Francis and Clare are working together to create a new athletics field for Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) events. In addition to a soccer field, the facility will house separate fields for football practice and football games. St. Francis and Clare donated six acres of its land, and OLG is financing the remainder of the project. While the initial intention was to provide a home field for OLG and St. Francis and Clare students, the two parishes will allow teams from other Southside schools to use the fields as well.

Where We Worship (and why)

Published April 13th, 2007
iswwwrardin.jpgBy Seth Tripp The Southside Times Being called to the ministry is what Andy Raridin of Calvery Baptist Greenwood felt when he joined the church in 2000. Andy who just recently became the Youth pastor at the church. Before he was made Youth Pastor at the church Andy was a member at the church and Sunday School teacher for the young Adults class. Also married and a father of two boys Nate, 5 and Jay, 3. His wife Amy says that the friendliness of the church is what drew them to the church. "When you go to your first service there are several people that come up to you and make sure you feel right at home. Since coming from the small town of Casey, Illinois they felt a little overwhelmed in larger church so they felt that Calvery was just the right size for them and fit the need so fall the boys. Although Andy has now accepted the position as Youth Pastor he is still the teacher of a growing class. The class was started a year and a half ago and is growing quickly. Amy says it is a very tight knit group that strives to make new couples feel welcome. There is a lot of accountability in their sunday school class. They stay in contact and get together for social activities at least once a month. "It's just great to be able to come to a place to worship that's accepting and enjoyable to be at every week and not just some of the times."
