Locals honored as graduates of innovative nursing support program

Published June 10th, 2010

American Senior Communities (ASC) is responding to the shortage of nurses in Indiana by developing the Opportunity to Nursing Excellence Program (O2NE). It is designed to help Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) have the opportunity to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). The most striking part of the program is that ASC does not ask for an employment commitment after the schooling is complete.
Dan Benson, COO of ASC states, “ This effort is meant to breathe life into our industry as a whole and to benefit everyone it touches, not just our company. We’re helping to fulfill the need for more licensed nurses in the field, and that can only be good for everyone.”
Candidates are given the chance to return to school, fully paid by ASC. They are given a 30-hour work schedule with the pay of a 40-hour work schedule to enable them to have additional time for classes and study without being penalized financially. ASC also provides assistance for childcare to alleviate another common stress point for adults returning to school.
This year’s candidates selected by south side ASC locations are Melissa Wright of Beech Grove Meadows, Lori Parker, of Franklin Meadows, Aimee Ramey and Amber Mahoney both of Rosegate. All received their LPN diploma and were honored at a special graduate luncheon.
