Air Force Airman Aaron R. Haitsma has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Robert Haitsma of Briarhill Drive, Goshen, Ind., and Carrie Mathews of Madison Village East Drive, Indianapolis, Ind.
Helen Nicole Coffman and Joseph Michael Alloway are engaged to be married Oct. 18 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Helen is the daughter of Mrs. Robert J. Coffman,Sr. and Joe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Alloway. The couple originally met while attending kindergarten at St. Roch Catholic School and were later reintroduced through a friend while attending IUPUI. The bride-to-be is a Registered Respiratory Therapist at Kindred Hospital and the groom is a Network Administrator at the law firm Scopelitis, Garvin, Light, Hanson & Feary.

Air Force Senior Airman Armandlyn C. Haganman is currently deployed to Afghanistan serving on the anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in New York and Washington, D.C.
The airman serves with the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing at Bagram Air Field to help ensure terrorist insurgents do not regain a foothold in the region. The air field is the largest military installation in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Tim and Patty (Chandler) VanSickle will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday. They were married Sept. 20, 1958 at Beech Grove United Methodist Church. Tim is retired from tool and die work; Patty is a retired administrator from University Heights Convalescent Center. They have three children, Amy Essick (Larry), Lora Rogers and Beth VanSickle, and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The couple will celebrate their anniversary with an open house at the church where they were married.
Dick and Barbara (Hibner) Need were married 50 years ago on Sept. 19 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. They celebrated with a family dinner earlier. Dr. Need was with Indiana Internal Medicine for more than 30 years. He is currently the director of Evidence Based Medicine at St. Francis Hospital. The couple have three children, Betsy (Lee Robbins) of Indianapolis; Mark (Andrea) of Bloomington; and Matthew of Denver. They have five granddaughters, Hallie, Emilie and Jaime Robbins and Zoe and Ella Need.
Beech Grove graduate and Mississippi State runner Renee Masterson ran in the Sewanee Invite on Saturday, finishing third overall and first for MSU, and helped her team to the invite title. She set a personal record by about 20 seconds, finishing the 5K race in 18:17. The challenging, hilly course near Chattanooga, Tenn., was made more difficult by a fog that allowed visability of about 50 yards and a cool drizzle.
Masterson’s time was in the top 10 times ever run on the course. She next runs at the MSU Invite on September 20th in Starkville, Miss., then at Notre Dame on October 3.
