Airmen graduate from basic training
Air Force Airman Erin N. Markham has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations.

Church hosts free dinner for military families
With 53 military awards, Don Myers is considered Indiana’s Most Decorated Marine, and he will be the speaker for Christ Our Shepherd Church of the Brethren’s free dinner for military families, which will be held Sunday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m.

First-ever Indy Marathon to take place this Saturday
More than 3,100 runners will hit the city streets for the first-ever Indianapolis Monumental Marathon this Saturday, Nov. 1.
Participants from 39 states and four countries are registered for the event, whose title sponsor is St. Francis Hospital & Health Centers. The race features a full marathon (26.2 miles) and a half marathon (13.1 miles). Both courses will begin near Washington and West streets and will end their trek on Robert D. Orr Drive to the finish line, 200 yards east of West Street.

Webcasts now available from mortuary for out-of-town family
Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Centers is now offering video recording and webcasting of funeral services to families.
Currently, the system is in place at the company’s Zionsville and Washington Park East locations. Not long after setup, it was used this month to offer a live broadcast of a funeral in Zionsville to a relative of the deceased, a soldier stationed in Iraq.

Hoeping celebrates 35 years
Judy Hoeping, owner of Tomorrow Realty, celebrated her 35 year anniversary with the real estate company she started. The open house was held at the Tomorrow Realty office, located at 441 West Main Street, Greenwood.
Private completes basic training
Army National Guard Pvt. Andrew Morrow has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Morrow is the son of Ellen Morrow of Nonchalant Court, Greenwood, Ind., and Eddie Speyrer of Thorn Drive, Youngsville, La.
Corey joins Sizemore Insurance Agency
Brent Corey has joined Sizemore Insurance Agency as an independent agent. A graduate of Greenwood High School, Corey received his B.S. from Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Corey previously worked as project manager of the Greater Greenwood Chamber of Commerce and currently serves on the Greenwood City Council. Corey also serves on the board of directors for the Johnson County Senior Services and the Old Town Greenwood Association. Wilfred K. “Wootie” Allen, 90, of Beech Grove,
died Oct. 16, 2008. He was born January 2, 1918 in Indianapolis to the late Wilfred H.Allen and Alfreda B. Kurz Allen Segren. He married Bette Allen on April 24, 1941 and she preceded him in death on February 24, 2008. Wootie served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. His working career began at the New York Central Railroad Shops in Beech Grove from 1936 to 1951. Later, he worked for Greyhound Bus Company for six years. He then operated an upholstery shop for many years and served as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1980. Wootie was a 50 -year member of the Centre Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, and York Rite. He was also a Kentucky Colonel, a 25 year member of the Royal Order of Jesters, and a member of American Legion Post 276, where he served as Commander in 1950. Calling was Friday and services were Saturday at Little & Sons Beech Grove Chapel. Burial in Washington Park East Cemetery. Memorials to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children or donor’s favorite charity.
