Beech Grove High School will present Footloose as their spring musical this Friday and Sunday, March 7 and 9. Performances will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $5 for students and $6 for adults.
The cast is led by Marcus Gallagher as Ren, the city kid from Chicago who moves to rural Bomont, Texas. He meets Shaw Moore, the powerful and conservative preacher in town, played by Paul Black. Moore
Glenns Valley hosted a school wide program in their gymnasium on February 29 celebrating diversity. Students performed songs, dances and skits to celebrate the differences of all children. Glenns Valley has students from El Salvador, Ghana, Liberia, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Mexico, Argentina and Peru. Students from these countries performed speaking in their native language and wearing clothing from their culture. Music teacher Rebecca Vernon led this program. Artwork was also displayed by artists with diverse backgrounds. Students in all grade levels participated in this program and have been preparing and practicing for many weeks.
Physicians at St. Francis Hospital & Health Centers are challenging the faculty of Whiteland High School to a game of hoops for a very good cause. The two teams, along with former Indiana Pacers star Rik Smits, will come together on Friday, March 21, for Docs vs. Jocks vs. Drugs, an annual charity basketball game to raise funds and educate youth about the dangers of drug, alcohol and tobacco use. Proceeds from the event will benefit drug awareness efforts at Whiteland High School.
The charity basketball game will take place at 7 p.m. in the gym at Whiteland High School, 300 Main St., in Whiteland. Tickets are $5 and are available at Whiteland High School and at the door the night of the event. Children ages 6 and younger may attend at no charge.
Those in attendance will have an opportunity to meet and take a photo with Smits, the 7-foot-4-inch former Pacers center. Half-time entertainment will include a free-throw contest featuring Robert J. Brody, president and CEO of St. Francis Hospital.

As a former Navy cook, Harvey’s first message focused on a one-serving-fits-all approach to a sailor’s menu in the 1940s.
“You didn’t have a choice. Whatever I made, that’s what they ate. When you’re hungry, you eat what’s there,” he said.
But another message was more inspiring as he pointed to the need for veterans to talk to students.
“I hope we instill that in the students that we are a free society and in order to keep this society we must have veterans because they’re the ones who stand at the forefront,” he said.

For the second consecutive year, schools in Franklin Township will be closed in observance of Veterans Day. School board president Matt Hamner, who suggested the closing, said the decision would also recognize the families of vets, who go on and live lives without parents and spouses. “Those families will never be the same,” he said, “There is no greater group of men and women to recognize than veterans.”
In order to close, the school corporation had to evaluate the cost associated with the observance
