The Indiana Association of School Principals has named BGHS Assistant Principal Steve Cox as the District 7 Assistant Principal of the Year. Cox was selected for his outstanding work in the areas of school safety, student services and leadership skills.
The Center Grove Quiz Bowl team claimed the state championship title at the finals held Saturday, April 19, at Harrison High School in Lafayette.
The top 24 teams from six leagues competed, and Center Grove completed an undefeated season on their way to the championship Saturday, defeating Marian, Washington (twice), Saint Joseph, Harrison, and, in the finals, Penn High School. The team also won the division play-offs and the White River League Finals earlier in the season.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) recognizes 15,000 finalists through high PSAT scores. Three seniors at Center Grove High School will use the recognition for college tuition. Katelyn Bird feels she may get a scholarship from NMSC to help with science ambitions at the University of Chicago. After named a Finalist, Bird and the other students had to fill out an application with a small essay.
Two students will receive full, four-year scholarship as the Johnson County Community Foundation 2008 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars. Dillon Etter and Anne Kaylor will receive not only full tuition to the Indiana colleges of their choice but also an $800 stipend each for required books and equipment.
Etter is the son of David and Fay Etter. He attends Center Grove High School and will study Animal Science with a Pre-Veterinary Medicine Specialization at Purdue University.
Kindergarten students at Rosa Parks Edison Elementary recently completed an author study focusing on Dr. Seuss. The students read several of his works and focused on the phonemic skills (such as rhyming and alliteration) in his stories. All four classes also imbedded other curricular areas by graphing their favorite Dr. Seuss books, creating a Venn Diagram based on One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and discussing important social concepts such as non-discrimination (as shown in The Sneetches) and taking care of the Earth (as explored in The Lorax).
The 36th Elementary Music Festival for the Metropolitan School District of Perry Township will be on Tuesday, March 25, at 7 p.m. in the Southport High School Fieldhouse. The program, entitled

High school students taking part in Summer Honors 2008, scheduled for July 20 to 26 at Indiana State University will be active participants in activities they won*t find at a typical summer college program.
Courses include activities that range from flying an actual aircraft, using forensics to create a clay model of a human head or examining the connection between politics and global warming. Students will work alongside some of the same professors they would later learn from and conduct research with if they chose to pursue a college degree at Indiana State.
