Young presented with DAR award

The Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) held their annual State Conference from May 2 to May 4 in Indianapolis. DAR in Indiana represents 87 chapters and more than 4,600 members. The DAR promotes patriotism, history and education. The highlights of the State Conference are presentations to all the DAR award winners. Essayists, students, teachers and citizens are acknowledged for their contributions to our nation. The DAR Good Citizen Award is given to high school seniors who exemplify dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. The finalist sponsored locally by the Samuel Bryan Chapter of the DAR is Lauren Ashley Young. Young, a senior at Perry Meridian High School, is the daughter of Jeannell and Robert Young. She plans to attend a Christian college in Ohio in the fall with a double Major in Education and Spanish.

American Idols at Conseco Fieldhouse

Tickets for the Pop Tarts American Idols Live Tour, which makes a stop in Indianapolis on July 22, will go on sale this Saturday, May 17, at 11 a.m. They will be available at the Conseco Fieldhouse box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone and at ticketmaster.com. The concert will feature all 10 finalists from the TV show (now in its seventh season), including Brooke White, Carly Smithson, Chikezie, David Archuleta, David Cook, Jason Castro, Kristy Lee Cook, Michael Johns, Ramiele Malubay and Syesha Mercado.

Summer camps at Southeastway Park

This summer, Southeastway Park will offer eight weeks of Environmental Education Summer Day Camps for ages 3 to 15. The programs will teach children to understand, appreciate and enjoy the outdoors. Each camp is a one-week session.

Community theater finds new home on Main Street

Spotlight Players of Beech Grove, a non-profit community theater group, recently leased the Beall Building on Main Street and have began renovation efforts to ready the 5600 sq. ft. facility for their 10th season, which begins in October.

The group will host an open house and fundraiser this Friday, May 2, from 7 to 10 p.m. The event will feature a live band, raffles, appetizers, a cash bar and excerpts from Spotlight
