Former Perry Township teacher to speak at IMA

Connie Heermann, the Perry Meridian High School English teacher who was removed from her classroom after using “The Freedom Writers Diary” book in her classes, will speak at the Indianapolis Museum of Art today. Heermann’s remarks will follow a free 6 p.m. screening of the movie, “Freedom Writers,” a movie based on the book Heermann handed out to her students. The Indianapolis Museum of Art is located at 4000 Michigan Road. The museum’s capacity for the event is 170; all will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Chili cook-off to raise money for children’s burn camp

The event is open to the public free of charge. However, donations will be sought for the burn camp.
Free samples of chili will be given from the contest, being held from 4 to 8 p.m.

Henderson earns Eagle Scout Court of Honor

Dancing star will lead 500 parade

The 500 Festival announced today Julianne Hough, a professional ballroom dancer and emerging country singer best known as the dance partner for Helio Castroneves on the ABC series Dancing with the Stars, will lead the opening production of the 2008 IPL 500 Festival
Parade. The parade is scheduled for noon on Saturday in downtown Indianapolis.

BMV enhances online features

Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) Commissioner Ron Stiver announced yesterday that more online services are now available for BMV customers. Customers can now create a myBMV virtual account and avoid visiting, mailing or calling the BMV for help.
