The 2008 High School Football season on the Southside will officially get underway this Friday night. For our first ”Game of the Week” feature of 2008, we have the Southport Cardinals hosting the Roncalli Rebels. Perennial powerhouse Roncalli will start the 2008 season on the road with 21 seniors leading the way. Although the underclassmen will have to contribute significantly for Coach Bruce Scifres, the Rebels will rely on senior leadership and experience to regain the program’s former state-championship glory.
Coach Bill Peebles and the Cardinals will begin this year’s campaign at home. They hope to get off to a big start with an upset over Roncalli. Southport will return 18 starters from the 2007 squad. This clash on the Southside will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday night in Perry Stadium.
