Local students perform in Butler’s “Nutcracker”

When curtain goes up on the annual Butler Ballet production of “The Nutcracker,” six southside students will take the stage. Local dancers performing in the classic holiday ballet are: Adam Battiato, St. Barnabas School; Madalynn Bright, Southwest Elementary; Shelby Burks, Center Grove High; Kelsey Burks, Center Grove Middle); Isabel Burks, West Grove Elementary; and Taylor Griffin, Rosa Parks-Edison. There are five performances at Clowes Memorial Hall on the Butler University campus. Show

GBGCC hold Veterans Day dinner

The annual meeting for the Greater Beech Grove Chamber of Commerce was held on Nov. 11, Veterans Day, at Valle Vista Golf and Conference Center. In recognition of Veterans Day, Butch Fennema, Gunnery Sgt. Andrew Clauser, U.S. Marines and U.S. Army Sgt. Iain Batchelder spoke to the group. The group spoke representing the “Past, Present and Future of Military Service.”

St. Francis invites families to breakfast, spend time with St. Nick

The St. Francis Memories to Hold program will host Breakfast with Santa 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 6 in the cafeteria at St. Francis Hospital-Indianapolis, 8111 S. Emerson Ave. (Entrance 6).
In addition to the breakfast, children can make holiday crafts and receive giveaways before meeting Santa and sharing their Christmas wish lists with him.

Center Grove presents 2nd annual Community Literacy Night

“Reading Adventures,” Center Grove Schools’ second annual literacy night, will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Pleasant Grove Elementary School, 5199 W. Fairview Rd. in Greenwood. It’s open to the public, and admission is free.

Wethington named Officer of the Month

On the early morning of Oct. 12, Sergeant Kevin Wethington learned of a gentleman who was robbed and severely beaten on the Southeast District. Sergeant Wethington immediately established the suspect’s description by interviewing area residents and business owners about the crime.

Southport Presbyterian stages The Tempest

Caliban (left, played by Donna Andre) captivates Stephano (Mike Merrick) and Trinculo (Allison Tomlinson) early in the story of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, now on stage at Center Stage Productions, 1427 Southview Drive, Indianapolis. Shows this weekend are Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14 and 15, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and $8 each for groups of 10 or more, and are available at the door on show nights or by reservation by calling 294-4426. New pantry program will aid struggling families with newborns

Many central Indiana families are struggling to weather today’s tough economic climate and find it increasingly difficult when a new baby arrives in the household.

That’s why St. Francis Hospital & Health Centers has established the Newborn Pantry, a program designed to ensure that families have some of the necessities for their newborn infants.
