UIndy Opens Art Exhibition “Seeing the Land”• A regional juried exhibition that explores the use of both urban and rural landscape in contemporary art is now open at the University of Indianapolis. Featuring 18 artists from Indiana and surrounding states, the 20-plus pieces in Seeing the Land showcase a variety of stylistic and conceptual approaches toward landscape as a subject matter. Though most works are paintings or photographs, the exhibition also includes such diverse media as chromogenic print and archival inkjet print. Entries were juried by members of UIndy’s Department of Art & Design faculty. | Where: Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center Gallery, University of Indianapolis, 1400 E. Haunted Conservatory at Garfield Park • This Halloween, the Garfield Park Conservatory has transformed into a spook-tacular haunted island adventure. The haunted portion of the Conservatory is designed for ages 10 and up, however all who dare are welcome. Explore the tropical shadows and encounter lost natives, pirates, and plants and animals gone wild. During this time, there will be kid-friendly activities in the front portion of the Conservatory, so the whole family can enjoy this event. | Where: Garfield Park Conservatory, 2505 Conservatory Drive, off the 2400 block of South Shelby St. | When: Today and Friday, daytime hours 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a lights-on, less-scary experience. The Friends Foundation celebrated the 20th benefit pageant at the Beech Grove Promoter’s Club Fall Festival in September. More than $3,000 was collected by 39 candidates to support children living with HIV/AIDS.

UIndy announces campaign for new recreation facility

The University of Indianapolis has launched a capital campaign for a proposed 103,000-square-foot Student Athletics & Recreation Center, which will provide much-needed space for sports teams and related academic programs as well as fitness facilities for the entire campus community.
