Lutheran High School presents Nothing but the Truth

Published November 20th, 2008

The Lutheran High School Theatre Department will perform the drama Nothing But the Truth tonight at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. in the Ruth Lilly Auditorium.

Based on the young adult novel by Avi and dramatized by Ronn Smith, Nothing But the Truth deals with the critically important issues of respect, personal freedom, and patriotism.

Philip Malloy is sent out of Margaret Narwin’s homeroom for creating a disturbance by singing the national anthem instead of standing at “respectful, silent attention” as instructed. When Philip is finally suspended for refusing to apologize, what is initially a classroom incident between a student and teacher suddenly becomes a national news story as newspapers and radio talk show hosts learn of the boy who was suspended for singing the national anthem. By the end of the play, the questions remain. Why do the versions differ? And who is telling the truth? There are no easy answers presented in this play.

Mrs. Sarah Styf is director and Mr. Don Fritz is technical director of the play. Students in the cast include Scott Kanning, Drew Sheehy, Julian Ramos, Charles Young, TJ Dudley, Sawyer Knuteson, Karlie May, Sarah Lewer, Leah Shadday, Hanna Trusty, Becca Duggan and Kelsie Curtis.

Tickets for the show are $6 for adults, $4 for students and seniors, and $3 for elementary students. They may be purchased in advance from the high school office or at the door. Call 787-5474 for more information. Lutheran High School is located at 5555 S. Arlington Ave.
