Community Thanksgiving Dinner • The members of Edgewood United Methodist Church are pleased to announce the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner. Everyone is welcome. “Polar Express” Comes to IMAX at the Indiana State Museum • “The Polar Express: An IMAX 3D Experience” is making a stop to benefit the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. Audiences can climb aboard this popular holiday film, returning to the largest movie screen in the state for the fourth year. Based on the beloved Caldecott Medal children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg, “The Polar Express: An IMAX 3D Experience,” combines classic storytelling with cutting-edge filmmaking. | Where: IMAX Theater at the Indiana State Museum, 650 W. A life-size robotic train conductor will engage moviegoers in the theater lobby on Saturday. Play explores issues of sex, power, changing gender roles • Sex, power and the possibility of a four-sided love triangle are key elements in the University of Indianapolis’ upcoming theatre production, Spike Heels. The UIndy production, more intimate than last month’s large-scale Into the Woods, was designed entirely by students and gave them experience in all aspects of theatre, according to faculty director Brad Wright. | Where: University of Indianapolis Studion Theatre, lower level of Esch Hall, 1400 E. UIndy Art Exhibition “Seeing the Land”• A regional juried exhibition that explores the use of both urban and rural landscape in contemporary art is now open at the University of Indianapolis. Featuring 18 artists from Indiana and surrounding states, the 20-plus pieces in Seeing the Land showcase a variety of stylistic and conceptual approaches toward landscape as a subject matter. Though most works are paintings or photographs, the exhibition also includes such diverse media as chromogenic print and archival inkjet print. Make-A-Memory With Greenwood Public Library • Make a Memory is a way for people to share a little piece of their personal history with those they love and the Greenwood community. A librarian will record up to 40 minutes of your oral history using digital voice recording equipment. You may bring a friend or family member along to interview you, or ask the librarian to interview you about a broad topic of your choice. Greenwood Public Library Canned Foods for Fines • The Greenwood Public Library will accept canned food items as payment for overdue book fines. The library will accept one can of food for each dollar they owe (excluding those already sent to the professional collection agency). The Greenwood Salvation Army will receive all of the donations. This will apply to overdue fines, not including lost books, processing fees and collection agency fees. If you are current on your books – you can donate anyway by bringing in items just for fun! Items such as toiletries, laundry soap, canned meats, complete pasta meals (in a box), rice, beans and other non-perishable food items. | Where: Greenwood Public Library, 310 S. “Black Widow” Shoots Pool to Benefit Boys and Girls Clubs • Pool Players of all caliber will be entertained and some given the opportunity to play against one of the most lethal players of all times. Jeanette Lee, “The Black Widow,” will put on an exhibition as well as give some area players a chance to play her head-to-head. This is a fund raiser for The Boys & Girls Clubs of Morgan County and Grace Church. Metropolitan Opera presents “La Damnation de Faust” in High Def on Movie Screen • The series offers opera fans exclusive behind-the-scenes features, live interviews with cast and crew, insightful short documentaries, and bird’s-eye views of the productions, offering an unprecedented look at what goes into the staging of operas at one of the most famous opera companies in the world. Saturday’s production is “La Damnation de Faust,” directed by Robert Lepage and starring Marcello Giordani, with Susan Graham and John Relyea. James Levine conducts. Tri Kappa Breakfast with Santa • Zeta Theta chapter of Tri Kappa announces the 29th annual Breakfast with Santa. Children and adults can shop in the Shopping Boutique. Raffle tickets will be available for children and adult prizes. With the exception of the raffle tickets, shopping boutique and pictures with Santa, all activities are included in the price of the ticket. Scott Bradford and his talented choral group will set the mood with traditional Christmas songs. Rainbow Junction Puppet Ministry will present their puppet show and there will be various other entertainment. Mrs. Claus will visit with families during breakfast and be available for pictures. They are serving only one breakfast sitting this year, beginning at 9 a.m., so guests have better access to the many activities of the morning.
