How would you celebrate at the end of 10 weeks of walking, playing games, lifting weights and laughing? The answer for this time is a walkathon the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Call it a new way of launching the traditional Christmas season!
For those who covet that as a Christmas-shopping-only day, the walk runs 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Shop early, shop late. You can have it all. We can bring guests to walk with us.
As my first 10-week cycle of the Totally Fit Life system winds down, all my “classmates” are pushing harder to reach goals we all set individually for our first program cycle. Thanksgiving week — appropriately — is our final week of this cycle of commitment. And we have much for which to be grateful.
I find I now tend to naturally favor healthier foods. No, chocolate isn’t out, but it really doesn’t appeal much anymore. Coffee in moderation is still in, but I really enjoy grabbing a glass of water more than ever. Clean water to drink is a wonderful gift.
I can walk with much less pain now and have more endurance. My daughter, whom I haven’t seen in nearly two years since she married and moved to South Africa, came for a visit. She even noticed when she arrived at the airport at midnight — not my best time — how much better I move. And, she is one of my main motivators for continuing to participate in these 10-week TFL cycles. I have fun — yes. But I want to be strong enough to make that long trip to see her in South Africa.
So, on Thanksgiving I’ll gobble — in moderation, of course.
Friday I’ll wobble to the downtown tree lighting ceremony.
And Saturday I’ll toddle to the walkathon.
Time to celebrate the 21st Century way.
