Tia Today: Live into that

Published November 13th, 2008

My friend Andrea said, “Live into that, Tia.”

What did Andrea mean? Well, she meant the journey of intentional lifestyle choices.

We all make decisions every day about where we go, what we do with our time and what we eat. Recent years have seen society speed up almost to a constant state of overdrive. Amazingly, that choice — or acquiescence to pressure — takes control of so many other lifestyle decisions.

For instance, with little time to prepare meals from scratch (I used to make nearly every meal that way), more prepackaged or high glycemic foods are consumed. As a general guideline, the foods sold in the middle aisles of a grocery tend to fit that caution category. The foods on the outer aisles that edge the store tend to be closer to their natural state, and thus often healthier choices. Beware, though: I’ve noticed some grocery chains putting bologna and other chemically-saturated foods near the milk and yogurt.

Next, high doses of high glycemic foods stress the body’s immune system and drain energy away from vital functions. Low energy often translates into jittery nerves (and you thought it was the kids), or less productive work days. That’s no fun!

Live into that. Have fun exploring how good it is to feel healthier each week. To discover there is less back pain and more stamina each week I go through the Totally Fit Life process. To begin to discover once again what it is like to be more in control of multiple health arenas.

After seven weeks into this first ten-week cycle of the TFL system, the roots of long entrenched habits of life and mind are seeking to re-exert their power to run my life. Thankfully, TFL is all about purposely establishing exactly what I want: habits that let me remodel my life and head in the right direction. The choices seem clearer — and harder — every day. So, as Andrea implied, lean into that.

I’ll live into that.
