On the early morning of Oct. 12, Sergeant Kevin Wethington learned of a gentleman who was robbed and severely beaten on the Southeast District. Sergeant Wethington immediately established the suspect’s description by interviewing area residents and business owners about the crime.
Sergeant Wethington led a pursuit of the suspect, which involved the suspect jumping from his car, dropping a loaded handgun and fleeing on foot. The suspect was eventually apprehended with the assistance of K-9 and SWAT officers.
The suspect had recently been released from prison after serving time for armed robbery. He has been charged with the Oct. 12 robbery and as a serious violent felon in possession of a handgun.
“Sergeant Wethington combined his ability to effectively listen and gather leads from the Southeast neighborhood with an unrelenting persistence to find this suspect. The willing cooperation of our Southeastside neighbors and the good work of Sergeant Wethington led to the successful arrest of this violent felon,” explained Major Clifford Myers.
In honor of his service, Sergeant Wethington received the October Southeast District Officer of the Month award on Nov. 5.
