For the past 39 years, Roncalli High School has hosted a food drive to collect canned goods and money for the poor. The food and money goes to various organizations, with the majority going to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP). This year’s annual food drive will be held on November 22.
* SVdP trucks collect food in Roncalli’s circle drive from approximately 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
* Each Roncalli student is asked to bring 70 cans or $35, or a combination of both.
* Volunteers help sort, pack, and load trucks.
* Last year the drive raised three truckloads of food and more than $9,000.
* Roncalli hosts a blood drive in conjunction with the food drive; three mobile units will be on site.
Roncalli does not wait for the holidays to help the poor. On a weekly basis, 12 to 14 students who sign up in advance are taken to SVdP to help other volunteers sort and hand out food. Roncalli believes in service to others and has been helping SVdP for several years.
