Flagpole Dedication • Christina House in Franklin will dedicate a new flagpole, American flag and POW flag in honor of current military personnel and veterans in the area. Make-A-Memory With Greenwood Public Library • Make a Memory is a way for people to share a little piece of their personal history with those they love and the Greenwood community. A librarian will record up to 40 minutes of your oral history using digital voice recording equipment. You may bring a friend or family member along to interview you, or ask the librarian to interview you about a broad topic of your choice. Day of the Dead Art Workshop: Sand Skeleton • Individuals ages 6 to adult are invited to create a small-scale sand painting of skeletons using sandpaper, colored sand and glue to celebrate Day of the Dead, which combines Mexican and Central American ancient rituals with Christian beliefs to honor the dead and celebrate the continuity of life. Monday Evening Book Discussion Group at the Beech Grove Public Library • The Monday Evening Book Discussion group meets on the second Monday of every month except for December. Everyone is welcome to join us for the discussion even if you have not finished the book being discussed. Monday night’s book “Stonecutter’s Aria.”   The Stonecutter’s Aria offers a visually stunning presentation that is the background to the compelling story of one marble carver who immigrated to America in the early part of the twentieth century from Carrara, Italy.  The novel is written in the unique style of opera acts and takes the reader to Italy and throughout America when labor wars, World War II internment and racial oppression were prevalent.  The “Stonecutter” was Ms. Faenzi’s great-grandfather whose artisan skills were used on some of our country’s most important monuments such as the National Archives and Duke University. UIndy’s Jazz Artist Series Continues • The first half of the season features local jazz artists performing and discussing their work in the informal setting of Room 115, a lecture/performance space in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center. Indianapolis Run of “Lion King” Musical Includes Two Indianapolis Performers • Casting has been announced for the Indianapolis engagement of Disney’s “The Lion King.” “Lion King” dances into Indianapolis from Nov. 19 to Dec. 28. Two cast members with local connections include Trista Dollison, who is originally from Indianapolis and Tony Freeman, who performed in Indiana Repertory Theatre’s 1995 production of “Broadway Bound.”  Freeman, who will portray Zazu, has previously played the role on Broadway for over 1,500 performances. “Lion King” begins performances on Nov. 19 and will play Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Special Holiday Performance times are 2 p.m. on November 26, November 28, December 24 and December 26. Good seats may be still purchased at The Murat Theatre, Clowes Memorial Hall, by calling Ticketmaster at 317-239-1000 or online at www.Ticketmaster.com. Groups of 20 or more, call 632-5182 x103. Ticket prices range from $19.50 to $77. Additionally, Premium Ticket Packages are available for $132, which includes a prime seat location, a commemorative souvenir program and an exclusive merchandise item.

Midtown Community Mental Health Artists Featured at Wheeler Arts Community • The works by artists from Midtown Community Mental Health Center will be featured at a free art show at Wheeler Arts Community. The monthly First Friday event will also include works by College Mentors for Kids and local artists as well as music by classical guitarist Samuel Lawson. Artwork will be for sale with all proceeds going directly to the artists. The works by artists from Midtown Community Mental Health Center, a division of Wishard Health Services, are created through Midtown’s drop-in programs. These client-driven programs focus on the vocational and recreational needs of those with mental illness.  Consumers from across Midtown attend art and ceramic groups and work in the Glad Writings Card Shop and use these programs to express their talent, creativity and feelings.  Sale of cards and art works give the community an opportunity to view and appreciate the talent of these artists. | Where: Wheeler Arts Community, 1035 Sanders St. in Fountain Square, Indianapolis | When: Friday from 6 to 10 p.m.

Domont Studio Gallery Presents “Art Has Gone to the Dogs” • Jennifer Complo McNutt, curator of contemporary art for the Eiteljorg Museum, combines her passion for art and dogs in this beautiful and entertaining exhibition of art about dogs. Thirteen local, regional and national artists come together to present their impression of and experiences with dogs. The exhibition features an installation and performance piece done in Spanish, an articulated dog made entirely of antique appliances, fiber works, drawings, paintings and prints that are sensitive, funny and inspiring images of our canine friends. | When: The exhibition opens on Friday and continues through December 20. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday through Saturday. First Fridays, the gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Cabaret Benefits Music Group • South Group of the Women’s Committee of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra announces its annual Holiday ‘n’ Cabaret Auction, Nifty-Fifty. Celebrate the 50th anniversary of South Group, whose goals include promoting community awareness and attendance, promoting season tickets and the Annual Fund, developing fund raising activities that are fresh and fun, and attracting, training and retaining effective volunteers. Pet Photos • Santa Arrives for Early Visit with Humane Society. Santa is coming for a visit to pose for holiday photos with your favorite pets (and your kids if you would like a family shot).
