Published October 30th, 2008

Lutheran High School Biology teacher Kris Coneybeer is the 2008 recipient of the Dr. Arthur L. Amt Lutheran Teacher of the Year award.

In presenting the honor, the Superintendent of the Indiana District of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, Jon Mielke said this is the highest District honor presented and is awarded to the person who exemplifies the characteristics of an outstanding teacher and represents all outstanding instructors.

“Kris’ passion for her subject matter and desire to remain current in teaching techniques make her a worthy candidate,” said Mielke. “Her persistence and determination to intentionally integrate her faith in all areas of her life show the students in her care how important it is to believe in Christ. Her students see that daily through her attitude of care and concern.”

Coneybeer is the first Lutheran High School teacher and first Lutheran schoolteacher in central Indiana to receive the District honor. She has taught at Lutheran for 26 of her 28 years in teaching.

“Receiving the Arthur L. Amt Award is a tremendous honor and at the same time a humbling experience,” Coneybeer said, “We inspire students to learn and more importantly share our faith with our students so they may come to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ.”

Lutheran Principal Gary St Clair is thrilled Coneybeer received this year’s award. “Kris’ passion for putting best practices and the latest in innovative teaching techniques to use everyday is a common characteristic of her teaching. Students all learn at different levels and she works passionately at making it possible for them to do so. Kris’ passion for teaching and for her students never stops.”

Lutheran High School Board President Kyle Allen is pleased to hear of the honor. “Kris exemplifies all that we desire in a Lutheran educator — excellence in teaching as well as a positive influence on the spiritual, physical, and social aspects of the lives of our students. We are blessed to be able to work with Kris to accomplish our mission of preparing young adults for a Christian life while providing academic excellence in a Christ-centered environment.”
