LONG-TERM-GROWTH STOCKS ON SALE -

Fast-moving tech stocks have taken a beating recently, leading to a slew of bargains for people with the guts to buy. No surprises there. Market panics occur daily. That’s why all-star investors bet on growth over the very long term. Bear in mind that this isn’t a list of recommendations. Instead, these companies are offered as candidates for further research. Suntech Power (STP): Suntech’s numbers look good. The stock trades at 28 times forward earnings; return on equity is rising and now stands at 24.76. Manitowok (MTW) just shipped out its smallest and least profitable business. Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTSH) has been an aggressive buyer of its own shares. Quicksilver Resources (KWK) and Core Laboratories (CLB) also made the MSN money list.

OUTSOURCING YOURSELF -

It may be news to the thousands of Wall Streeters being laid off these days, but jobs in the finance industry are actually plentiful. In Brazil. The Brics – Brazil, Russia, India, China – and several countries in the Gulf region are hot destinations for American executives as global capitalism booms due to changed political systems. The result is a growing need for experienced knowledge workers. But while jobs might be plentiful – especially for American-educated and trained employees, picking up and moving isn’t easy. That’s especially true if you don’t know where to start. If you think moving abroad for work might be for you, consider the following: 1. It helps if you know someone in the country, even if that person isn’t in your field. They can help you get acclimated and settled, 2. Visiting the country goes a long way toward impressing prospective employers, and 3. Learn the industry issues that keep your prospective employers up at night; knowing them and having thoughtful possible solutions could be key to landing the job.

THX-CERTIFIED DOORS FOR HOME THEATERS -

Home theater junkies are now one step closer to a fully THX-certified home thanks to Serious Materials’ QuietHome soundproof doors, which joins the company’s QuietRock THX-certified drywall. The Serious folks claim an 85 percent improvement in sound blockage over a standard solid-core door with the 2 1/4-inch thick THX-certified edition, which will set you back $2,500 when it clears the certification board (and once the first shipment clears to George Lucas’s Presidio compound).

NEW PSP TRADES BATTERY FOR CLARITY -

Sony’s fans might experience feelings of disappointment upon hearing the news that the new PSP-3000 comes with a shorter battery life thanks to its brighter and larger power-sucking LCD display. The good news is the new screen will allow gamers to see “brighter colours and a better-defined on-screen image in natural light” compared with the PSP-2000 (look at picture). Did that lessen the blow a bit? No? Fear not gaming obsessives, battery life hasn’t been cut dramatically (20 to 30 minutes), and Sony intends to begin selling an extended-live battery (eight to ten hours versus three to four) in October.
