Darbi Ruff organizes Christmas play for Center Grove Presbyterian

By Nicole Davis

Expect anything at Center Grove Presbyterian, on Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m, 2340 S. State Rd. 135. The annual Christmas Variety Show 2012 is just as it sounds – a wide array of entertainment said 16 year-old Darbi Ruff who has organized the production. From singing and live skits to videos all accompanying a Wizard of Oz theme, Ruff said the performance will be amusing to the whole family.

“It’s just a fun night,” Ruff said. “You’ll laugh. If you think it could happen, it could happen. There’s always a spiritual story that runs through it, too. So (audience members) can have fun at it while learning something.”

This is Ruff’ first year to organize the show. The sophomore at Center Grove High School volunteered last year to produce the films. When the youth pastor who organized it in previous years moved to Texas, he gave the production task to Ruff.

“It’s been a little bit nerve racking at times, with school,” Ruff said. “I knew what to expect, but it’s been really nice because of so many people that have come up to me and asked to help.”

Ruff said she feels like the show is coming together well, thanks to the large amount of church members that have volunteered to help. The high school youth group assisted with the videos.

The show portrays two women who are traveling to the Wizard’s Emporium in search for things they want. They realize they don’t need these things because they are perfect the way that God made them. With many actors spreading humor throughout the night, Ruff said she just hopes to make people laugh.

Ruff said the entertainment will begin around 6 p.m. She plans to keep the audience entertained pre-show with minute-to-win-it games and video clips. She said her favorite part of the show has been editing the videos. During that process, she has set aside the funny moments for a blooper reel for all to view.
