Tragedy shatters family’s holiday

Published December 23rd, 2010

Two weeks ago, Jennifer Lashley
never expected to spend the
end of the year and this holiday
season in a hazy blur of emotion.
On the night of Dec.13, her
world shifted. That’s the night
her sister, Angela K. Dodson,
was murdered at the age of 32
years. Angela was the mother
of three children; son, Devin
Dodson, 14; daughter Kaylee
Dodson, 8 and daughter Katelyn
Isaac, who just turned 1-yearold
on Dec. 18. They all lived
with Angela’s parents, Karen and
Chris Dodson on the South Side
and the school-age children attend
Beech Grove schools.
“My sister had her troubles,
like everyone does, but she was
working it out and was excited
about the future for her and her
children,” Lashley said. “There
are so many things I would like
to say about her, but mostly how
much she loved her children.”
On Monday, Dec. 20, a day
when most were busy with holiday
events and shopping, this
family buried their mother, sister
and daughter. The children will
continue to live with Angela’s
parents where they are welcome
and loved. However, trying to
make ends meet on a fixed income
will be a struggle for them
as they attempt to meet the funeral
expenses and the needs of
a growing teenager, adolescent
and toddler. “Just paying for
diapers has been difficult for my
parents,” Lashley said.
The community has begun to
rally around the family in this
painful time of need. Southeastern
Christian Fellowship Church
donated food. “We were amazed
at the boxes of food the church
brought us,” Lashley said. Servant’s
Heart has reached out to
provide gifts for the children to
celebrate Christmas. “We are
so very grateful and don’t know
how we can ever repay the kindnesses
people have shown,” Lashley
added on behalf of the family.

Angela K. Dodson, 32, died Dec. 13,
2010. She was born March 31, 1978
to Chris and Karen (Crabtree) Dodson.
Other survivors include son,
Devin Dodson; daughters, Kaylee
Dodson and Katelyn Isaac; sister, Jennifer
(Charles) Lashley; grandparents,
Joann Crabtree, William and Joann
Dodson; and nieces, Kayla and Lexus Halcomb. Services
held Dec. 20 were entrusted to Wilson St. Pierre Funeral
Service and Crematory, Chapel of the Chimes. Online condolences
may be sent to wilsonstpierre.com.
The Angela K. Dodson Memorial Fund has been established
at KeyBank. Anyone wishing to make a donation can
do so at all central Indiana KeyBank locations.
