Obituaries for the week of 03.04.10

Margaret N. Asbery, 62, of Indianapolis, died Feb. 27, 2010. She was born Dec. 27, 1947, in Jamestown, Tenn., to the late Isaac and Reva Threet. Survivors include her husband of 42 years, James “Shorty” Asbery; children, James C. (Rebecca) Asbery II, Sherry Hughes, Victoria Asbery; grandchildren, James C. Asbery III, Allisha Asbery, Tyler James Asbery; step-grandchildren, Austin, Savanna, Isaiah Arnold; great grandchildren, Haylee, Jaycee, Chloe; sister, Barbbara Moore; and brother, Gregory Threet. Her daughter, Lisa Asbery, and parents-in-law, George and Lillian Asbery, preceded her in death. Burial was held March 3 at Concordia Cemetery.

Fred S. Gagliolia, 39, of Indianapolis, died Feb. 24, 2010. He was born Jan. 19, 1971, in Omaha, Neb. Fred was a roofer for 14 years Peters Roofing. Survivors include his daughter, Brooke Gagliolia; son, Nicholas Gagliolia; brother, Pete Gagliolia; sisters, Sherry Lynch-Welch and Dawn Lynch-Groler. Burial was held March 3 at The Gardens at Olive Branch Cemetery and Mausoleum Park.

Ellabeth (Beth) Landis, died March 1, 2010. She was born January 26, 1937. She was a subsitute teacher for Franklin Township Schools. She is survived by her husband, Ross O. Landis; children, Gerald A. Landis,Sheri L. Landis; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

G. Lee Little, of Beech Grove, 74, died Feb. 22, 2010. Lee was born in Beech Grove to the late Vernon and Alma Little. Lee began working at the family owned funeral home, Little and Sons in Beech Grove in 1950. His mortuary career spanned half a century before he retired in 1998. Lee married Anna Margaret Weingardt, his childhood sweetheart in 1955. They have three sons, all of whom survive; Michael, Curt, and Kerry (Darla) Little. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Mitchell, Maddie, Christian and Collin. Burial was held Feb. 27 at Calvary Cemetery Memorial.

Loretta Mae Mitchell, 83, of Indianapolis, died Feb. 24, 2010. She was born July 14, 1926, in Vincennes, Ind., to Lawrence and Lona (Beard) King, who preceded her in death. Two sisters, Deloris and Ruth, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Mitchell worked for Chesty Potato Chips in Terre Haute for 20 years. Survivors include her son, Max Mitchell Pruett; her sister, Lucille Wagle; her brother, Lawrence Eugene King; 4 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Burial was held Feb. 27 at Highland Lawn Cemetery, Terre Haute.

Duffy “Big Duff” Sauers, 73, of Indianapolis, died Feb. 23, 2010. He was born Dec. 15, 1936, in Indianapolis to the late Leonard and Rose Sauer. He served in the Marines and later in the Army during the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Linda Sauers; children, Michael Sauers, Anna Napier, Duffy Sauers, Jr., John Sauers, Patrick Sauers, and Josh Sauers; honorary son, Gary Hummel; sisters, Betty Jean Dawson, Mary Jo Roberts, Rosemarie Gregg, Cathy Campbell; brother, Jon Sauers; 27 grandchildren; 19-great grandchildren. Services were held Feb. 27.

Wanda M. Wallman, 96, of Greenwood, formerly of Indianapolis, died March 1, 2010, at Regency Place Greenwood where she spent the past 18 years under their compassionate care. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wallman; grandson, Timothy Dale Wallman; brothers, Werner, Eugene Bauman; sisters, Loretta Wolsiffer and Florence Mannix. She is survived by her five sons, R. Joseph, Thomas, Richard, Gerald and Lawrence Wallman who were all veterans of the US military. She is also survived by a sister, Alvina Mannix, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 5, at 10 a.m. at St. Barnabas Catholic Church. Visitation will be Thursday, March 4, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, where prayers will be said on Friday at 9:30 a.m. prior to Mass. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Barnabas Church Building Fund.
