Advance Services opened in 1998 and offers everything from carpet cleaning to full fire restoration. Opened Mon-Fri. 8:00am to 5:00pm and on call for fire and water emergencies.

Corny chicken lunacy

Over time, humans have evolved in such marvelous ways; capable of crafting lyrical, joyous music, timeless literature and everlasting works of art. Any self-respecting Pollyanna would expect by this point in human development, man might also have established a steadfast moral inner voice, an unselfish conscience like the good book teaches. We’ve gone to the moon for crying out loud, but we’ve failed at maintaining something as basic as a pure heart.

Greenwood Christian Church: Many moves from log cabin in 1860 to a church of 2,000-members

Greenwood Christian Church will celebrate 150 years of serving the community during April. Located at Averitt and Worthsville roads on Greenwood’s southwest side, the church operates in a spacious building that is open seven days a week, offering a school and several programs to meet spiritual and personal needs.

Last minute legislative action will likely require date change for CGCSC general fund referendum

The Center Grove Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees accepted a recommendation from the General Fund Referendum Committee and adopted a resolution to hold a special election on July 13, 2010 for a general fund referendum. However, school officials discovered March 18 that the final text of House Bill 1086 included an item that will affect the referendum process.

It’s sweet pea time

I always plant annual flowers in my vegetable garden, and some of the earliest blooming are the sweet peas (Lathyrus odoratus). Their scent is unmistakable, and like many floral scents, evokes memories of the past. When I smell them I remember the sweet peas Dad always grew along the chicken wire fence that protected his vegetable garden from dogs, rabbits, and kids.

10th Annual Riley Dance Marathon

Registration open for Southport High School will be holding its 10th Annual Riley Dance Marathon on April 10.  This fundraiser will take place from 2 – 8 p.m., with registration beginning at 1 p.m. in the Southport High School Fieldhouse. Funds raised will benefit Riley Children’s Hospital.

“Our theme this year is ‘Raise the Roof for Riley: Be a Hero’,” explains Dance Marathon co-president Emilie Robbins. “We hope to make this year better than last, beating last year’s record of over $23,000.”
