The Indiana Association of School Principals has named Center Grove High School Principal Matt Shockley the 2009 High School Principal of the Year.

The award was presented Sunday evening at the association’s banquet honoring the district Principals of the Year. Center Grove winners from District 9 included Shockley and Jack Parker, Principal of Center Grove Middle School Central. Shockley will now be considered for the National Secondary Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Superintendent Steven Stephanoff congratulated Shockley, adding, “We are all very proud of Matt, and he is very deserving of this prestigious award.”

Shockley was a classroom teacher for five years and an Assistant Principal for two years at Tipton High School, before serving the past eight years as an administrator at Center Grove High School — four years as assistant principal and four years as principal. As a leader, he is very active in his church, Mount Auburn United Methodist Church, and the Center Grove community. He also holds membership or leadership positions in professional organizations, and has previously won several awards, including Influential Staff Member (2001) from Tipton High School, Administrator of the Year (2003) from the Indiana Association of Student Councils and Influential Staff Member (2005) from Center Grove High School.

“Overall, a leader’s effectiveness is directly related to the trust and relationships he has formed with whom he leads. Leadership is about serving others. My parents and my Christian faith have served as the foundation of my leadership philosophy,” explained Shockley.
