
Donald Ray Collins, 49, of Indianapolis, died Sept. 4. He was born Sept. 7, 1959, in Detroit, Mich., to William L. and Nancy M. (Kelly) Collins. He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Carolyn Donahue. Survivors include his mother, brothers Roger(Shirley) Collins, James and Michael Collins; sisters Beverly Edinger, Nina Jones, Debra Collins and Teresa Hammons; companion Linda Hall and several nieces and nephews. The calling was held Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 1-2 p.m. Graveside service was held at New Crown Cemetery.
Deloris H. Cooney, 83, of Indianapolis, died Aug. 31. She was born August 7, 1926, the daughter of Ernest and Margie (Gibson) Lucas. She dedicated her time at St. Francis Hospital, beginning in April 2001, accumulating more than 800 volunteer hours. Deloris will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Linda Harmon; sons, Larry (Wanda) Cooney and John (Pamela) Cooney; grandchildren, Jenifer (Wade) Wiggins, Joe (Whitney) Harmon, Josh Cooney, Jeff (Natalee) Cooney, Jason Harmon, Sean Cooney and Siobhan Cooney; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Ava Wiggins. She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Cooney. Services were held Sept. 4 at Grace Evangelical Church. Deloris was laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Lucille Haywood, 91, of Indianapolis, died Sept. 3. She was born Aug. 13, 1918, in Richmond, Ky., to Elon and Jenny Barnes. Lucille was an inspector for RCA. Her husband, Estel Haywood; and brothers, Frank and Jack Barnes preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Sue Fox; sister, Beulah Barnes; granddaughter, Kimberly Uehlin; great-grandson, Dyllan Uehlin; and stepchildren, Shelba Ooley, Gloria Rector and Delmar Haywood. She was laid to rest Sept. 5 in Washington Park East Cemetery.
Ella Mae Clayton Williams, 55, Indianapolis, died Sept. 2. She was born April 17, 1954, in Beech Grove. She was a homemaker. The memorial service was held Sept. 5 at Christ United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by parents Claude and Dora (Plyle) Clayton and brother David Clayton. Survivors include son Jason A. (Jennifer) Williams; sisters Patricia (Tom) Barnes, Betty Settles, Marie Clayton, Monica (Kelly) Hanrahan; brother Fred Clayton; and grandchildren Jacob and Jaycie Williams. Arrangements were handled by Fountain Square Mortuary.
Sandra K. “Sandy” Young, 56, of Indianapolis, died Sept. 2. She was born Dec. 7, 1952, in Big Stone Gap, Va., to Willie “Clay” and Louella Murray. Sandy owned her own shop, Design By Sandy. Sandy served as the co-youth minister for 36 years at Garfield Park United Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Donald T. Young; mother, Louella Murray; sister, Sharon O’Brien; mother-in-law, Reba E. Young; and brothers-in-law, Jeff O’Brien and David Young. Her father preceded her in death. Services were held at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 7. She was to rest in St. John Cemetery, Cumberland.
