On Wednesday, April 8, Center Grove’s 2009 Teachers of the Year were honored at a reception held in the Hall of Excellence at Center Grove High School. The honorees entered via the red “carpet” and traveled down the Walk of Fame, complete with faux Hollywood-style stars featuring each of their names.

After each school’s Teacher of the Year was honored, the 2008 Center Grove Community School Corporation Teacher of the Year, Joann Gantz, announced that Angie Marsh, a 7th grade math teacher at Center Grove Middle School North, is the 2009 CGCSC Teacher of the Year. As a result, Marsh also becomes the district’s nominee for the 2010 Indiana Teacher of the Year.

Marsh received the award with a check for $1,000 from the school corporation. She tearfully thanked her parents, who were in attendance, for making her the person she is today. Her father is a retired school teacher. She also thanked her husband and family, as well as her teaching team at CGMSN. “As I listened to the comments regarding my colleagues here today, I wonder how I can get my children to be in all of their classrooms,” said Marsh. “I am just so honored and humbled to be in the company of such talented teachers.”

Superintendent Dr. Steven Stephanoff presented the award, and congratulated all of the Teachers of the Year, saying “The statement is true that students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. Thanks to all of you for caring so much about Center Grove students every day.”

The Teachers of the Year were chosen by their colleagues at each school. These nominees for district honors completed applications that were submitted to a selection committee from Franklin College. The committee reviewed the applications and selected Marsh as the 2009 winner.
