Facing talented competition from Indiana, Kentucky, and California, The Debtones from Center Grove once again received top honors, as they were named the Grand Champion of the unisex competition class during The Classic 2009 choir competition. They also won the caption award for Outstanding Vocals.
The competition, featuring 23 high school choirs, was hosted by Lawrence Central High School on Saturday, Feb. 28. The Debtones competed along with three other Center Grove choirs: CG Sound System, Competition Class – Mixed; Surround Sound, Festival Class; and CG Singers, Concert Choir Class.

In the Festival class, Center Grove’s Surround Sound was First Runner-up to Grand Champion Rebel Rhapsody from Roncalli High School, while the CG Singers placed Second Runner-up in the Concert Choir class. The winning concert choir was Colla Vocé from Heritage Christian School.
The Center Grove choirs are directed by Christopher Pratt and Jennifer Dice, assisted by Sheila Leachman, choreographed by Andy Haines, and accompanied by Greg Sanders and the CG Show Band.
The next competition, featuring the four Center Grove competition choirs, is Saturday, March 7, at North Central High School.
