Center Grove plays a rematch with Carmel for state title

Published November 26th, 2008

The Center Grove Trojans claimed another Semi State Championship Friday by defeating Ben Davis 49 to 21. This victory sets the stage for a rematch with Carmel and a shot at redemption. Back on Sept. 5, the Trojans were poised to score a late touchdown and claim a win against the Greyhounds when fate intervened and a fumble on the goal line denied the Trojans a victory. Since that “black Friday” Center Grove has never looked back going on to eleven straight wins and capturing a Semi State Title. This Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium Center Grove will again face the Greyhounds, this time a state championship will be on the line. The Trojans enter the game with their offense operating at full steam. Coach Moore’s team will need that scoring machine to be at full throttle in order to keep up with Carmel’s touted quarterback. Keeping the Greyhounds offense off the field will be the key to victory. As in any big game, limiting mistakes and turnovers will play a vital role if the Trojans are to claim their second state championship in eight years. Kick off is set for 7:05 p.m. on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium. Ticket can be purchased by contacting the Center Grove Athletic Department at 881-0581. One dollar per ticket will go to the Trojan Athletic Department; this is only income the school will receive from the game. There will be a pep rally for the team at halftime of Wednesday’s boys’ varsity basketball game. Whether you are a Center Grove fan or not, all Southsiders can unite behind this team and help bring a 5A Championship back to the Southside.
