Can you hear that? If not, listen closer.

“Ding dong! The witch is dead! Which old witch? The wicked witch! Ding dong! The wicked witch is dead!”

Just in case you don’t own a TV, New England Patriots quarterback, NFL MVP, magazine cover boy and Bridget Moynahan’s baby daddy Tom Brady suffered a season-ending knee injury Sunday afternoon.

What it feels like to love our country

Published September 11th, 2008

For the rest of our lives, September 11 will be a somber day.

For thousands, it will be remembered as the day someone dear was tragically taken away forever.
For millions, it will be the day we recall learning a lot about ourselves and our country in a matter of seconds and moments.

Genius: The crunch of the peanut and toffee

Published September 11th, 2008

My fellow Americans: I rise today to speak in favor of an American institution, without which life in these 50 states and 14 or so territories would not be nearly so sweet — the Brach’s Maple Nut Goodie.
Yes, my friends, the Maple Nut Goodie, beloved by candy cognoscenti from sea to shining sea — peanuts coated in toffee wrapped in maple shells. What’s not to love?

And not only do they taste good, they have the magical power to transcend time and space, if you don’t eat them too often.

Masterson excels at Mississippi State

Published September 11th, 2008

Beech Grove graduate and Mississippi State runner Renee Masterson ran in the Sewanee Invite on Saturday, finishing third overall and first for MSU, and helped her team to the invite title. She set a personal record by about 20 seconds, finishing the 5K race in 18:17. The challenging, hilly course near Chattanooga, Tenn., was made more difficult by a fog that allowed visability of about 50 yards and a cool drizzle.

Masterson’s time was in the top 10 times ever run on the course. She next runs at the MSU Invite on September 20th in Starkville, Miss., then at Notre Dame on October 3.

Pat Kuntz
Roncalli H.S. Graduate
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
#79 – Senior
Defensive End
Roncalli grad and Notre Dame senior defensive end Pat Kuntz has started his final season at ND. Kuntz racked up 42 solo tackles and 2.5 sacks during the ‘07 season and led the nation in passes batted down. This year he will wrap up an outstanding collegiate career. Through all the ups and downs of this storied program, Kuntz has continued to work hard and improve. ND is off to a shaky start in ‘08. A close call against San Diego State indicates the Irish still need to improve as a team. Kuntz will start this Saturday as Notre Dame hosts an equally struggling Michigan team. Kick off is set for 3:30 p.m. Kuntz will play an important role, pressuring the QB in the spread offense Michigan runs this year. After this season and graduation, you will still be able to see Pat Kuntz play — on Sundays.
