The Center Grove Quiz Bowl team claimed the state championship title at the finals held Saturday, April 19, at Harrison High School in Lafayette.
The top 24 teams from six leagues competed, and Center Grove completed an undefeated season on their way to the championship Saturday, defeating Marian, Washington (twice), Saint Joseph, Harrison, and, in the finals, Penn High School. The team also won the division play-offs and the White River League Finals earlier in the season.
Team members are David Bruner, Jason Edelman, Mike McCoy, Zach Stallard and Jacob Walker.
The Center Grove Brain Game team, consisting of the same members, videotaped the semi-final match last Wednesday against Franklin Central. The contest will be aired in early May. The Brain Game airs every Saturday at 7 p.m. on channel 13. Center Grove defeated Hamilton Southeastern, coached by Center Grove graduate Ashley Rightsdell, to get into the semi-finals.
As semi-finalists, our school representative will receive the award and a check from the Brain Game sponsor, Westfield Insurance, at a ceremony for the top eight teams at Butler University the evening of April 29.
