GREENWOOD — To exercise in a fun, wholesome manner, build at least a couple of human squares, add some music and a caller.
Charlie and Ruth Johnson of Greenwood are on a mission.
They want to launch a square dance club on the Southside.
Back in the 1950s, Charlie Johnson belonged to an active square dance club in Harlan County, Kentucky.
But then life interrupted his dance steps.
While raising his family, Johnson took a few occasional moments to pass along the tradition to his children and grandchildren.
But for 40 years, that was the extent of his dance time.
Retired in 1990, Johnson and his wife, Ruth, both 71, happily returned to the square dance floor.
They dance at least a couple of days every week.
