Perry Township Fire department officials reacted today to the filing of three felony theft charges against Perry Firefighter Dan maple, the former White River Township Trustee in Johnson County. Department spokesman Russ Futrell released the following statement on behalf of the department: “Lieutenant maple is being transferred to administrative duties within the department while we assess his ability to respond to emergency calls. Firefighters are in a high-stress position, and personnel must be able to concentrate first and foremost on the safety of the public. As our evaluation of Lieutenant maple and the charges proceed, if the department deems further action is necessary, an appropriate recommendation will be made for Merit Commission action.”
