Dr. John T. Coopman, superintendent of Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation, was chosen by the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents as the 2008 District V Superintendent of the Year. District V Central includes Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Marion and Shelby counties.
Winners are chosen by other superintendents in their district who consider the qualifications and accomplishments of area colleagues as well as how well they have exerted leadership with limited financial resources. One of the seven district winners will become Indiana's representative in the American Association of School Administrators National Superintendent of the Year program.
Coopman was named superintendent of Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation in 1997. He initiated a plan to restructure staffing and benefits to allow the district to concentrate resources to benefit students in the classroom. Enrollment in this rapidly growing district has increased from 2,950 students to 5,000 students since Coopman became superintendent.
Coopman is a graduate of Purdue University, earned his M.S. and Ed.S. degrees from Indiana University and an Ed.D. from Ball State University.

Terry A. Shaw, 47, has been named the first executive director of the newly organized Greater Beech Grove Chamber of Commerce.
A business owner for 17 years, she is not a newcomer to the Beech Grove business community. For the past four years, she was vice president and secretary of the chamber predecessor, Greater Beech Grove Business Association.
Her job now is to promote the Beech Grove business community. She plans to do it with programs, seminars and workshops that will unify area businesses. Members are encouraged to give first consideration to fellow chamber members when buying goods, supplies and services.
