Football/soccer field is the product of a collaborative effort between Our Lady of the Greenwood and St. Francis and Clare parishes. OLG has enough players and funding for teams but is without its own field and landlocked. St. Francis, on the other hand, has acres of excess land, but students in grades 3-8 are currently enrolled at OLG and participating on the Eagles

Dr. John T. Coopman awarded District V Superintendent of the Year

Coopman, superintendent of Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation, was chosen by the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents as the 2008 District V Superintendent of the Year. District V Central includes Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Marion and Shelby counties. Winners are chosen by other superintendents in their district who consider the qualifications and accomplishments of area colleagues as well as how well they have exerted leadership with limited financial resources. One of the seven district winners will become Indiana's representative in the American Association of School Administrators National Superintendent of the Year program. Coopman was named superintendent of Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation in 1997. He initiated a plan to restructure staffing and benefits to allow the district to concentrate resources to benefit students in the classroom. Enrollment in this rapidly growing district has increased from 2,950 students to 5,000 students since Coopman became superintendent. Coopman is a graduate of Purdue University, earned his M.S. and Ed.S. degrees from Indiana University and an Ed.D. from Ball State University.

Shaw named chamber executive

Terry A. Shaw wants to promote Beech Grove and its businesses.By Mike Alexander Terry A. Shaw, 47, has been named the first executive director of the newly organized Greater Beech Grove Chamber of Commerce. A business owner for 17 years, she is not a newcomer to the Beech Grove business community. For the past four years, she was vice president and secretary of the chamber predecessor, Greater Beech Grove Business Association. Her job now is to promote the Beech Grove business community. She plans to do it with programs, seminars and workshops that will unify area businesses. Members are encouraged to give first consideration to fellow chamber members when buying goods, supplies and services.

Greenwood schools adopt budget

By Sherri Coner-Eastburn These are the days when, unfortunately, we can get bombarded with totally negative messages about day-to-day life. Turn on the news and hear heartbreaking stories of young men and women maimed forever or lost forever, to the war in Iraq. Too many incidents of missing children, elderly people beaten by thieves, constant reminders that monsters lurk in our neighborhoods. I also get downright disgusted with the vicious pot shots taken so frequently at the young entertainer, Brittany Spears. It seems there is not one single person with a heart in the whole bunch of journalists and photographers. They foam at the mouth, waiting for her to mess up, make another bad choice. No one comes forward to save this young woman from herself. But everybody wants to be first to get the newest dirt on her downhill spiral. And so, when I get completely fed up with the way humans too often behave, I put on my blinders. And I look past the human side of life.
