Chief Whitmer addresses police activities in the city

The Chief of Police showed up at the Beech Grove Chamber monthly luncheon. Thankfully, it turned out he was the guest speaker.

Thursday, April 10th saw a full room of close to forty gather at the Benedict Inn Retreat and Conference Center for a savory meal before catching up with the latest happenings in the community. Amy Masterson led the meeting through a series of brief announcements and speakers.

Pathways Clubhouse had opportunity to alert the members to their upcoming open house on from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 20th. Pathways Clubhouse wants the public to have the chance for folks to see what mental health treatment is today: a caring atmosphere where people are asked what their hopes and dreams are. Pathways Clubhouse works to see those dreams stay alive. Compassion and dignity are cornerstones of their plan.

Pence weighs in on the war

“Cautiously Optimistic” is how U.S. Representative Mike Pence described his most recent, and 5th trip overall, to Iraq. Pence was the guest speaker for the Greenwood Rotary Club meeting at Jonathan Byrd Cafeteria. Pence remarked that he was “struck with a sense that things were different”. Three years ago he drove to the green zone station rather than using a helicopter. He also spent the night in Baghdad instead of flying out of the area.

Being called to the ministry is what Andy Raridin of Calvery Baptist Greenwood felt when he joined the church in 2000. Andy who just recently became the Youth pastor at the church. Before he was made Youth Pastor at the church Andy was a member at the church and Sunday School teacher for the young Adults class.
Also married and a father of two boys Nate, 5 and Jay, 3. His wife Amy says that the friendliness of the church is what drew them to the church. “When you go to your first service there are several people that come up to you and make sure you feel right at home. Since coming from the small town of Casey, Illinois they felt a little overwhelmed in larger church so they felt that Calvery was just the right size for them and fit the need so fall the boys.

Twenty-six-year-old Abram Sinn latches arms with Calvary Lutheran School students in the after-school youth group get-together last week. The activity the GAP youth group chose first was a game of Red Rover, and they were playing it ferociously.
Every Tuesday and Wednesday Sinn gets eighth- through 12th-grade kids together to have fun and learn about Christ.

Many mothers in the world have an incredible ability to handle crisis.
Like emergency room doctors, they can tackle anything. A Barbie shoe stuffed up a toddler nostril? They simply yawn. Somebody has a forehead gash from colliding with a coffee table corner? These mothers handle spewing blood without a blink. They know exactly what to do for nasty scratches, an assortment of pump knots and mysterious rashes, pimples and oozing sores.
Of course, I am not one of those mothers.
